Coffee, Tea, Kombucha & Yerba Mate
Coffee
The earliest credible evidence of coffee-drinking as the modern beverage appears in modern-day Yemen in the middle of the 15th century where coffee seeds were first roasted and brewed in a manner similar to how it is now prepared for drinking. While Santa Rosa’s coffee culture is not as old, we definitely have one. We have our own coffee roasters in Sonoma County specializing in small-batch, single-origin, organic, and fair trade. Some of our local roasters include Bella Rosa Coffee Company, Taylor Lane Organic Coffee, and Sunshine Coffee Roasters. We also have over a dozen independent coffee houses in Santa Rosa many with different specialties. Some of our favorites include Brew Coffee and Beer House, Land and Water, Acre, and Tea Ba Tea.
Tea
If coffee is not your style, then maybe a cup of tea. Sonoma County embraces sustainability and natural ingredients and even our tea culture reflects those values. Traditional Medicinals is a local company producing over 50 herbal teas and products. If you want an experience, maybe high tea is the thing for you, and we have that in downtown Santa Rosa. Stop by the Tudor Rose English Tea Room for some tea sandwiches, scones, and a cup of Earl Grey or Jasmine Rose tea.
Kombucha
Kombucha is a fermented tea drink also known as tea mushroom or kombucha tea and yes, we also have our own home-grown version in Sonoma County. Revive Kombucha started with a garage, a homebrew system, and some of our great farmer's markets. Now you might even find it near you. We also have Hoocha Hard Kombucha, Soul Fix Kombucha, and yes, multiple Kombucha taps in Sonoma County.
Yerba Mate
Yerba mate is an herbal tea made from the leaves and twigs of the Ilex paraguariensis plant and is said to have the strength of coffee and the benefits of tea. While It is the national beverage of Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, Sonoma County has its own company specializing in yerba mate. Guayaki offers loose-leaf yerba mate and also sells canned as well as carbonated yerba mate drinks, and energy shots.
